All American Family

All American family to say the least; they are the epitome of baseball, hotdogs and apple pie…..in other words they are pretty darn cool. We were lucky enough to have taken Linda’s senior pictures and now we get the whole family. The love and support they have for each other is crazy evident. They laugh together, joke with each other and even give each other a hard time…all in good fun naturally. It was hard not to get caught up in the laughter and the joking….my favorite was when I told Julia the sign was upside down..the look on her face was priceless.

Speaking of the sign, Charlie is a mayoral candidate for the city of Rochester MN. This family must really like us as we also did head shots for Charlie and yes…..there were just as many laughs and jokes during that session too. With each photo shoot we do for this family, we get to know them even better. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with the O’Connell family.

Just Because Mom Wanted Pictures

My son Sam and my daughter in law Tanna came for a visit from Sioux Falls. We had just done pictures of my daughter Kelsey’s family, so the mom in me said we need new pictures of Sam and Tanna. Amy and I were in La Crosse already doing a ROAD TRIP SENIOR SESSION. My family lives in the La Crosse area so I thought, what better way to get new pictures of the two of them and tie in a visit with Sam’s grandma at the same time. Win Win!

It was so much fun doing their pictures. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful son and equally blessed to have such an amazing daughter in law. As a mom, you want your kids to find love and happiness. Watching these two during their photo shoot only confirms they have found “IT”. And, this mom has new pictures!

Location, Location, Location

We’ve all heard it, location, location, location. We know the importance of location when purchasing a home; it’s just as important when choosing the location for your engagement pictures. My niece Jenny and her fiancé Jake wanted to tell the story of their love. We wanted to capture the places and things that have special meaning to them so when they look back years from now, they have memories from this wonderful time.

We made our way to La Crosse WI where we did some shots along the Mississippi River. Jenny and Jake enjoy hikes, nature and fishing so we wanted to show that in their images. We found a great spot where they could wet a line; they didn’t catch anything other than a beautiful engagement ring…. kinda cheesey, but hey….we were in Wisconsin.

Jenny also loves trees, her grandma does too, so we found them a forest. The beautiful bark and towering trees made for beautiful backdrops. She also wanted a willow tree. We searched for the ever elusive Willow Tree but alas…it evaded us. That was until we went to the spot where Jake proposed. Low and behold….this gorgeous, majestic Willow. It is a stunning tree…..it seemed to envelop them, shutting out the world…just Jenny, Jake and the tree. It was a gorgeous spot for a proposal…good job Jake.

Head Shots Can Be Fun

Getting new head shots are not typically the highlight of ones day. We find most people dread the thought of stepping in front of the camera. I for one would rather step on a pile of Legos than get my picture taken. Our goal when taking head shots, or any other picture for that matter, is to make the experience painless and even….. dare we say, FUN. The sales team from the DoubleTree in Rochester MN felt it was time to update their headshot. They opted for a somewhat casual look versus a studio vibe. We met in downtown Rochester where the fun began.

Most people, when they arrive to have their picture taken, are a little nervous. There’s that feeling of not knowing what to expect. We hear it all the time “I do not like having my picture taken.” Our goal is to change that thinking. We want you to have fun; to laugh and actually enjoy yourself. These ladies made our morning. We love hearing the laughter as the apprehension leaves and your inner super model comes out.

Beauty and Grace

Beauty and Grace…literally. Grace is absolutely beautiful. She looked simply lovely in her dress and heels, and talk about graceful. She rocked her brand new high heels like nobodies business. My feet hurt just looking at them. We are always reminding our seniors to wear comfortable shoes…this day, they were her Berks, though a little birdie told me she loves Crocs. It doesn’t matter what your go to comfy shoes are, just remember to bring them to your photo session.

Grace and beauty are not the only attributes she has; this girl is also quite the rower. We even learned about rowing, enough that it almost makes us want to join the club, almost. We continue to be amazed at the talents these young people have; you parents should be proud. The intelligence, athleticism, and personality they have is outstanding.
